Fairfield

Host to one of Sydney's major migrant camps to house World War II refugees, the Fairfield-Cabramatta region in Sydney's western suburbs remains a microcosm of Australian multiculturalism. Fifty-two per cent of Fairfield City's 190,000 residents were born overseas in 133 different countries.

Fairfield is also home to one of only three City Farms in Australia. The 186ha, working Fairfield City Farm at Wetherill Park offers a day in the country without leaving the metropolitan area.

The working farm stocks every kind of Australian domestic animal including a breeding herd of Hereford cattle and 200 sheep. The activity area offers tractor rides, 4WD tours, shearing and other demonstrations, a permaculture garden and BBQs.

The farm complex is part of the 580ha Western Sydney Regional Park which hosted the equestrian events and mountain bike competitions during the 2000 Olympic Games. The park is networked by internal roads and a walking track and includes several picnic areas.
