Box Hill

Located halfway between Melbourne and the Dandenongs, Box Hill is part of the City of Whitehorse. The city's coat-of-arms, in fact, features a white horse modelled on the centrepiece of a statue presented to the town by the owner of the White Horse Hotel after he was forced to close the pub doors when the local people voted in favour of prohibition in 1920.

The suburban pocket remained 'dry' until a 10-year battle by the RSL ended with the lifting of the prohibition legislation in 1966.

These days locals not only continue to savour a drink, but they enjoy some of Melbourne's finest ethnic restaurants. The precinct bordered by Carrington Road, Station Street and Whitehorse Road is renowned for its quality exotic food.

Acknowledged as the gateway to Melbourne"s eastern suburbs, the municipality of Whitehorse presents a combination of quality residential suburbs interlaced with more than 350 parks and reserves.
