The Calder Highway Sunraysia town of Ilymple is just 6km south of Mildura. A small town, it is home to Sunbeam Dried Fruits complex which offers guided tours.

These days, of course, production is not limited to sultanas and more and more wine grape plantings have led to an explosion in the number and size of the regional vineyards. The local Lindemans winery, in fact, is the largest in the southern hemisphere and, just outside town, Allambie Wines offer regular cellar door tastings.

Once you are wined out you can relax on a cruise of the Murray and Darling rivers aboard paddlesteamers which operate from the Mildura wharf.

The Golden River Zoo just to the north of Mildura hosts a wide selection of both native and exotic animals. If you have over-indulged in the tasting rooms, you can walk off the cobwebs on the bush tracks of the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park less than hour's drive to the south.
