Carss Park

Hugging the Kogarah Bay reach of the George's River, Carrs Park and neighbouring Blakehurst are two of those blessed suburbs in Sydney's south.

Not only do locals have direct access to the broad Georges River and Botany Bay through strategically-placed boat ramps and public jetties, but the suburb's two major reserves, Carrs Bush and Blakehurst Park, both have bayside frontages. Shark-proofed public saltwater baths and an Olympic pool complete the total water connection.

Carrs Park and neighbouring suburbs in the Kogarah region are also just a few minutes from the popular swimming and picnicking spots and the string of restaurants on the western shoreline of Botany Bay, and Cronulla and Wanda beaches are nearby.

Wanda"s signature sand dunes featured in the re-enactment of the last great cavalry charge of World War I captured in Charles Chauvel"s memorable 1941 film, Forty Thousand Horsemen.

The film focused on the pivotal 1917 battle when the Australian troops and their horses over-ran the Turkish stronghold at Bathsheeba in Palestine. Interestingly, the pacesetting Australian film director"s uncle, General Sir Harry Chauve, commanded the Australian Light Horse in Palestine.
