Revesby

Flanking the Georges River, which forms the southern boundary of Bankstown City, the suburb of Revesby takes its name from Revesby Abbey, ancestral Lincolnshire home of Sir Joseph Banks, the extraordinary botanist who accompanied Captain James Cook on the peerless Yorkshire navigator"s 1768-1771 voyage of discovery to Australia and the South Pacific.

Revesby is bordered on its eastern side by the broad Salt Pan Creek, and by the river to its south. Revesby also shares a boundary with Georges River National Park which embraces 174ha of riverside land, more than one third of Bankstown"s park and reserve land.

Despite the fact that the park is virtually at the geographic heart of Sydney (a huge city in world terms), visitors are virtually transported to the outback in this park with its long bushwalking trails, gentle streams and an abundance of wildlife.

And Salt Pan Creek - broad as a decent river - is a constant delight to locals who use for it for swimming, fishing and boating.
