Penshurst

Penshurst is a central suburb in the Hurstville municipality, about 20km south-west of Sydney's CBD and within striking distance of Sydney Airport, Botany Bay and the Georges River.

This densely-populated residential area, which is officially recognised as one of Australia's fastest-growing regions, boasts 138 parks and reserves covering a combined total area of some 264ha.

The first settlers arrived here circa 1808, when it was known as Lord's Forest, to take up land grants issued primarily for general farming and timber-getting purposes. Indeed, much of the timber from which Sydney"s early homes and buildings were constructed was hewn from forests which once dominated this part of Australia"s first and largest city.

Although a landlocked suburb on the Sydney metropolitan rail network, Penshurst is just minutes from the river and the large tracts of recreational parkland and public facilities, including netted swimming paths and boat ramps, which hug the northern banks of the Georges River.
