The south-eastern suburb of Maroubra, about 12km or so from Sydney's CBD, is home to the southernmost of a string of magnificent surfing beaches which stretches north to Bondi - a name synonymous round the world bronzed Aussie surf life-savers and great waves. The chain of Sydney's eastern suburbs surf beaches ends at the rocky headland which protects and divides the southern flank of Maroubra from Botany Bay. Maroubra is a multicultural precinct - brash and breezy, especially in the summer months when it buzzes with visitors from all over Sydney. It is also a very popular corner of Sydney with golfers who have a choice of something like 10 different and challenging layouts within a 10-minute driving radius. The rocks round La Perouse and the expanse of Botany Bay offer a wide variety of fishing. Rapid train, bus and road links draw Maroubra closer in time from the Sydney CBD.
