Carrum

Lying about halfway between Melbourne and the tip of the Mornington Peninsula, Carrum is perched on the Nepean Highway shoreline of Port Phillip Bay.

The Patterson River mouth forms Carrum's natural northern boundary, while the Patterson Lakes system and an adjoining wetlands environmental park protect the suburb's eastern and southern flanks.

This is great boating and fishing territory and the lakes marina provides a safe and comfortable launching pad for forays into the bay.

And, of course, the famed Mornington Peninsular beaches and resort towns such as Portsea, Sorrento, Diamond Bay, Dromana, Flinders and Hastings are but a comfortable, scenic drive away.

Over the years the coast to the north of Carrum has been an inspiration to a number of artists including Arthur Streeton, Charles Conder and, more recently, Robin Wallace Crabb. Painted in 1888, Conder"s handsome work, A Holiday in Mentone, hangs in the South Australian Art Gallery.
