Main Ridge

On the northern shoreline of the Mornington Peninsula, Rosebud and Main Ridge look across Port Phillip Bay in the direction of Melbourne 50km distant. The resort lies just 16km to the west of Point King where the uniting British standard, the Union Jack, was first raised on Australian soil in 1802. The town takes its name from the schooner Rosebud which ran aground on a sandbank in 1851 and attracted a settlement of fishermen intent on salvaging what they could from the doomed ship. Directly south from Rosebud lies the Cape Schanck Lighthouse which has been in service since 1859 and now also stands guard over the Mornington Peninsula National Park which is networked by a number of walking trails and attendant lookouts and picnic areas. A chair lift at Dromada will whisk you to the top of the 305m Arthurs Seat where you can dine in a restaurant which commands absolutely breath-taking views out over Port Phillip Bay.
