While the buffer city of Frankston is often described as the gateway to the tastes and sights of the Mornington Peninsula, it is rapidly becoming a resort and Melbourne day-trippers' destination in its own right.

From Seaford in the north, Frankston is graced by 10km of golden beaches on Port Phillip Bay and the thriving city calendar offers a year-long series of concerts, entertainment, cultural events and festivals. The more popular events include the autumn Frankston Guitar Festival, which celebrates every aspect of the instrument from manufacture to busking to classic performance, and the pre-Christmas Festival of Lights which features foreshore fireworks.

Bathing and fishing spots apart, Frankston is also within easy driving distance of the peninsula"s scenic parkland attractions, resort towns, art and craft galleries and celebrated vineyards. At the last count, there were something like 20 producing vineyards on the peninsula.
