Mukinbudin

Mukinbudin is three and a half hours drive northeast of Perth in the wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The district is famous for its wheat and sheep farming. The town was gazetted in 1922 and has many interesting historical and natural features. Visit three historical graves at the Wattoning Homestead site and the gnamma hole which was the town's main water source. Explore the massive granite outcrops including Beringbooding Rock and Elachbutting Rock. Beringbooding Rock has the largest rock water catchment tank in Australia, built in 1937 and holding two and a quarter million gallons. Beringbooding has an amazing balance boulder, a huge gnamma hole and some of the Kalamaia tribes paintings of hands in a cave at the rear of the rock. Elachbutting Rock is a massive granite outcrop, a very popular camping spot for four wheel drive clubs and for locals, also a popular site for weddings. It has a spectacular colourful wave similar to Hyden's Wave Rock with the added beauty of ﾑMonty's Pass', a 30metre tunnel caused by a rock slide. An echoing cave similar to an amphitheatre is close by. The six kilometre track around the rock with its dense trees and shrubs hide many interesting species of flora. The east side is renowned for its masses of Donkey Orchids at the base to the rock. Other local attractions include Yanneymooning Hill Reserve, 532 hectares offering a spectacular view with a variety of bird life and flowers. Chiddarcooping, a 1,400 acre granite reserve including a white hidden valley and, in spring, spectacular white leschenaultia and red velvet flowers. In town there is a local hotel/motel, small eateries and a shopping centre.
