Quairading

Quairading is located 170 kilometres east of Perth in Western Australia's wheat belt. The town derived its name from the Aboriginal word 'Kwirading', meaning the home of a small bush kangaroo. It boasts vast paddocks of wheat, canola and wildflowers; a sky full of brilliant stars; perfect sunsets; and friendly locals. The Quairading District Heritage Trail starts in the town site of Dangin and helps visitors gain insight into Quairading's early history. Vintage Club Museum is situated in the heart of Quairading and displays beautiful vintage cars and stationery farm machinery. Mount Stirling is 35 kilometres north east of Quairading on the Kellerberrin Road and is a magnificent rock formation where you can have a barbeque, picnic and walk around. It was known to the Aborigines as モMoulykヤ, a water snake which lived in surrounding water holes. Pink Lake is located 11 kilometres east of town on the York and Merredin Highway and is regarded locally as a natural phenomenon. At certain times of the year the left side of the lake has a distinctive pink colour, while the right side remains blue. During summer evaporation causes the water level to drop and salt builds up on old trees and fence posts. When the water returns, the salt causes the pink colour. Kokerbin Rock is the third largest monolith in the world. Situated 30 kilometres from Quairading in the Bruce Rock Shire, you can drive up to the lookout for fantastic views of the surrounding countryside or gaze at the millions of stars at night. There are barbeque facilities and walk trails. Accommodation includes a hotel, motel and caravan park.
