Yarrawonga

Lake Mulwala and the Murray River combine to make the cross-border towns of Yarrawonga in Victoria and Mulwala in New South Wales an inland aquatic paradise and an increasingly popular holiday destination. Tree-shaded foreshores on both the lake and river provide peaceful and secluded picnic, fishing and swimming spots, while watersports lovers can indulge in water skiing and sailboarding. The Lady Murray and Paradise Queen offer daily cruises on the lake.

The area is rich in heritage, with the Yarrawonga Mulwala Pioneer Museum and the Yarrawonga Antique Clock Museum both worth a visit. The Old Yarra Mine at the Visitor Information Office has a simulated mine and a large collection of gems and fossils, while historic Byramine Homestead has magnificent gardens.

And, of course, the celebrated Rutherglen wine district is about one hour or so to the east of Yarrawonga. Here you can taste and purchase wine through numerous celler door operations.
