Hove

The distinctive Arch of Remembrance opening on to the jetty sets Brighton apart from its sister seaside Adelaide suburbs on the Gulf of St Vincent shoreline.

Like their English counterparts, the Adelaide suburbs of Brighton and Hove are these days almost indistinguishable.

Visitors can get the feel of Brighton by taking the historic walk which begins at the Art Deco municipal offices and council chambers to take in the Spirit of Peace rose garden and a string of historic churches, homes, inns and other buildings.

Further along the coast, Kingston Park boasts some stunning views and a walk back into the Aboriginal Dreamtime.

Brighton is toward the southern end of a chain of cityside beaches that stretches north through historic Glenelg, birthplace of South Australia, Henley and Grange, which takes its name from the home of renowned explorer Charles Sturt.

Built as "the most English-looking place in the province" in 1840, the Grange has been restored, and, thanks to a donation of furniture by the Sturt family, the home is now a historical museum.
