Linden Park

The neighbouring, southern Adelaide suburbs of Linden Park and Beaumont are set in natural, red-gum dominated bushland on the eastern slopes of the Adelaide Hills.

The bush strikes a pleasant contrast with elms and other introduced species which shade the area's gracious homes. And no home is more gracious than Beaumont House.

Designed in an adaptation of the Classic Revival style in an attempt to use narrow, arched windows to reduce the summer heat factor, Beaumont was built in 1851 on land owned by Samuel Devonport for Anglican Bishop Augustus Short. The last private owners, Kenneth and Lilin Brock, gifted the home to the National Trust in 1967.

The suburbs are ideally placed to explore the national and conservation parks which ring the city's eastern and southern fringes. Close by is Cleland Conservation and Wildlife park where you can wander freely among wallabies, kangaroos, emus and waterfowl and get on nodding terms with the odd koala.

The Mt Lofty Botanic Gardens virtually adjoin Cleland, while Belair National Park, Mount George Conservation Park, and Loftia Recreation Park are within comfortable driving distance.
