Lying just to the north of the heart of Adelaide, the City of Prospect is an inner-urban community of 19,000 people living in heritage-rich, tree-lined residential streets transected by major arterial roads. Well-kept parks and reserves enhance the quality of life.

It is also a genuine market city. Hub of the open air shopping scene is the inner city Central Market in the Chinatown precinct behind the Hilton Hotel. The East End Market in Rundle also draws bargain hunters to the city at weekends to shop for fresh fish, meat, vegetables, clothing and jewellery, while suburban stall-holders set up at the Brickworks Market.
