Largs Bay

The twin Gulf St Vincent suburbs of Semaphore and Largs Bay share the western shoreline of the peninsula which guards the Port Adelaide River and the port itself.

They are graced by safe, sandy beaches which present open seascapes and are perfect spots from which to sit back and enjoy magnificent sunsets.

Semaphore is lined by an historic seaside promenade where you can relax on the restaurant verandah of your choice to drink in the gulf views while easing down a succulent whiting fillet with a Barossa Riesling.

The old Semaphore carousel, which has been enchanting children for generations, continues to make its rounds, while the cycle track offers a healthy and safe way of taking in the sites.

Open to the public on a restricted basis, Fort Glanville is one of the more complete fortifications built after the Crimean War to protect the Australian coastline from feared attack by Russia. The Time Ball Tower was built in 1874 and for the next 58 years it was regularly used by ships" masters to reset their chronometers by a black ball which dropped at 1300 hours precisely every day.
