The South Australian Museum, whose commitment to the collection, study, display and interpretation of indigenous people has been evolving for more than 100 years, opened the Australian Aboriginal Cultures Gallery in 2000. With more than 3000 items on display in a contemporary, interactive setting, the gallery is the most comprehensive Aboriginal cultural exhibition in the world. Along with the Festival City's other major museums and cultural centres the gallery is within a few minutes of inner southern suburbs such as Millswood, which is part of the City of Unley
