Park Holme

Flanked by the Sturt River, the inner south-western suburb of Park Holme is within a brisk gallop of one of Adelaide's racecourses, Morphettville.

This south-western metropolitan sector is linked directly to the heart of Adelaide by the Anzac Highway which terminates at the shoreline of the city's most historic beach, Glenelg. It was at Glenelg that the first English settlers in South Australia waded ashore from HMS Buffalo in 1836 to gather under a gum tree to listen as the proclamation was made declaring South Australia a state. Thanks to some reinforcing, the ancient tree still stands and is still used as a focal point for annual Proclamation Day ceremonies on December 28. A replica of the founding fathers' ship is moored near the Holdfast Shores beachfront complex.

The famous City to Bay tram links Adelaide and Glenelg whose beaches, relaxed atmosphere, restaurants and theme parks make it a favourite for day-trippers.
