Ridleyton

Ridleyton lies in the eastern corner of the municipality of Charles Sturt, which lays claim to the title The Switched on City.

The city, which is set between the commercial heart of Adelaide and the metropolitan beaches of Semaphore, Henley and Grange, takes its name from its most famous resident, explorer Captain Charles Sturt.

Indeed, Sturt's Cottage, built in 1840, still stands in the seaside suburb of Grange. Preserved by the Charles Sturt Memorial Museum Trust, the home and its contents, with the explorer's personal possessions and period furniture are open to the public.

The Charles Sturt City fathers are responsible for the administration of a largely residential area fringed by 13km of beaches and the 108ha West Lake marine reserve. Because of the ocean influence, the municipality is graced with a wide variety of open space, but the more popular parks tend to fall within the linear green belt which flanks the banks of the River Torrens which empties into the Gulf St Vincent just to the south of Henley Beach.
